A coupled Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics and finite element method is used to simulate the interaction between the bird and the rotary engine primary compressor. The corresponding tests of bird strike with engine blades were carried out under different impact boundary conditions. Then the damages of blades between the test and numerical simulation were compared and it is indicated that they are in good agreement. This suggested that the numerical model is capable of predicting the dynamic damage of engine blade impacted by bird. At last the study focused on the impact parameters that influenced the damage of the engine blades such as bird mass and velocity, impacted location and timing, and rotary speed. It is found that bird mass and the rotary speed of the engine blades have significant effect on the deformation and damage of the engine blades while the others have little effect.
