In this paper a new method is proposed to predict track deterioration due to dynamic wheel loading and spatially varying track stiffness. Based on experimental results, a vehicle model is linked to a newly developed settlement equation. The settlement equation is based on measurable track parameters. Findings from the research show the significant influence of spatial track stiffness variations on track deterioration, both in terms of the dynamic loading of track components and differential track settlement.
