Operations and Maintenance (O&M) constitute the longest phase in the lifetime of an offshore windfarm. Because of this, the expenditures during this period are a large part of the overall cost of an offshore windfarm and thereby the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE). Innovations are changing the operation and maintenance strategies used during this phase. The offshore wind O&M industry is shifting towards digital solutions and several practical innovations. Both are improving safety standards and the performance of a windfarm. A thorough analysis of the current strategies and approaches in the fixed bottom offshore wind sector is made in this work and describes (i) how under the condition-based (preventive) maintenance strategy the downtime can be reduced and therefore energy output can be increased and (ii) how gradually fewer on-site workers will be needed as a service crew in the near future.
