A model for the numerical simulation of interaction between railway vehicles, track and supporting structure is presented. The mathematical model is used to calculate forces and vibrations transmitted to the supporting structure or to the ground by the passage of a train and to evaluate the safety of train running and passenger comfort Some applications are reported, comparing the performances of different sorts of railroad superstructures.
