A numerical physical three-dimensional (3D) tyre model namely the physical rigid-ring tyre (PaRRT) model for tyre wear prediction, validated during previous research, is used to determine those design parameters that mostly affect tyre wear. The sensitivity analysis is carried out by modifying one parameter of the physical 3D tyre model per time. Thus, the ‘best tyre’ from a wear point of view and/or the most effective parameter to reduce tyre wear may be identified. Since tyre wear is strictly related to vehicle dynamics and driver's behaviour, the tyre wear prediction is carried out considering a validated 14-degrees-of-freedom model of a car vehicle controlled by a simple driver model. The vehicle is driven along a sample track made of curves and straight tracks performing standard and affording manoeuvres.
