Nowadays, twin propeller propulsion system is widely used on naval vessels and high-speed transport ships. During the design process of such a ship, due to the influence of the twin propeller on the propulsion system, attention should be paid to the shaft system arrangement. In this paper, a new design process based on CFD (computational fluid dynamics) has analyzed how much influence will be exerted by changing different shaft system arrangements such as changing the axis tilt angle and distance between the twin axis. Based on the results, the traditional ship-engine-propeller matching method has been improved, and the shaft system arrangement parameters have been included as important variables in ship propulsion system design process.
