It is well-established that UAVs are advantageous and effective for certain sorts of operations. The advancement of technology has made feasible what appeared unrealistic a few years ago, and the pace of research in this field augurs new UAV applications in a future that might not be that far after all. Additionally, the current state of UAV development and the outlook for this industry have positive repercussions, notably for industrial applications and numerous other connected industries. When human aid is either unavailable or problematic, UAVs can operate in emergency situations. These could help save lives in natural disasters, nuclear mishaps, and humanitarian crises, among other scenarios. Stakeholders, regulators, and institutions must carefully assess certain risks, as with any technology, in order to prevent, limit, and avoid the negative effects of certain implementations of this technology. Today’s UAVs also pose the dangers of cybersecurity incidents and criminal usage. This study focuses on the security issues associated with the usage of unmanned aerial vehicles. Specifically, we provide an overview of the potential dangers, assaults, and possible responses pertaining to UAV communications. Software Defined Networks, Machine Learning Based techniques, Fog Computing, and Blockchain Technology constitute the majority of the countermeasures under consideration.
