The issue of active fault-tolerant attitude stabilization for spacecraft systems via a Robust Nonlinear Iterative Learning Observer (RNILO) and sliding mode strategy is focused in this paper. Considering the faulty spacecraft with space environment disturbance, a novel RNILO is explored to identify actuator faults accurately and robustly. By utilizing the identified fault signal, a reconfigurable sliding mode controller with fault-tolerant capability is suggested to stabilize spacecraft attitude by eliminating the space disturbances and actuator faults. The RNILO-based sliding mode attitude controller with fault-tolerant ability is fulfilled to guarantee the whole spacecraft attitude system can be stabilized by applying the Lyapunov’s indirect methodology. At last, a satellite example and its simulation study are provided to verify the fine characteristic benefit from the proposed approaches.
