The Internet of Things (IoT) is a network of associated everyday objects and devices that are implanted with sensors and software that allow these gadgets to send or receive data. Smart transportation refers to the implementation of technology to improve and enhance the transportation system and make it more efficient which includes smart traffic lights, traffic management, etc. This paper presents the technologies used in the transportation system to make it more efficient, such as sensors, controllers, fleet tracking management, radio frequency identification (RFID), wireless sensors network (WSN), and asset tracking management. The technology used in transportation gives about 70–80% accuracy. This paper gives a complete conception of how the transportation system has been developing from the wheels, and carts to the development of vehicles like autonomous cars and various technologies that have been implemented, moreover, making our cities easier, improving the quality of public life, and managing safety and traffic flow.
