Enlargement of industries is necessary for development of any country: on the other hand, industries are also responsible for various types of pollution. In, India soil pollution is becoming a major issue due to industrialization. Meticulous spot assessment and design procedures are to be derived in case of lands previously occupied by industrial areas or subjected to a variety of hazardous materials for its safe use. The main research content of current study is to estimate the physical parameters and micro structural characteristics of Pb contaminated silty sand by performing basic geotechnical engineering tests, proctor test, unconfined compression strength test, pH of soil, X-ray diffraction analysis(XRD) and scanning electron microscope(SEM). The given Pb contamination led to a decrease of specific gravity, Atterberg’s limits, optimum moisture content (OMC), strength of soil but an increase of the maximum dry density (MDD). Interlayer spacing of soil minerals increases, even though their contents decreased. Changes in engineering properties of soil are observed because the microstructural characteristics of contaminated soil changed greatly with the increase of Pb concentration.
