Preconditioned Air Unit (PCA) provides air-conditioning of parked aircraft with electricity provided from the airport without using the Auxiliary Power Unit (APU). PCA Units supply fresh conditioned air having comfortable temperature and humidity to the aircraft cabin when the aircraft is parked on the aircraft stand. PCA unit has a much larger capacity than a home air conditioner to cope with the air-conditioning requirement of commercial airliners. In addition, PCA units must operate at much higher pressures, as they have to do the air-conditioning process much faster. Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) was used to investigate the effects of high-pressure on-air flow and provide the desired air-conditioning conditions. Different revisions have been tried to provide the most efficient airflow in the evaporator, which is one of the most critical areas of the airflow in the PCA. As a result, the revision with the most efficient airflow was determined and suggested for the design.
