Argentina’s space activities go from the formation of human capital to the development of telecommunications satellites. In the early years of the space race, Argentina started to develop its own national space sector, namely through the development and launch of experimental rockets, becoming nowadays an international and regional reference in the sector. This chapter presents a general overview of Argentina’s space sector. The first sections focus on general issues of the country, the history of Argentina’s space activities, and the economic perspective of the sector. Next, there is a description of the main characteristics of the national space plan and legal framework, as well as the space actors responsible to implement them. International space cooperation agreements between Argentina and other parties are also noted. The last sections focus on issues concerning Argentina’s satellite capabilities, in particular the current satellite programs and the national geostationary satellite system. In addition, there are several sections concerning Argentina’s space technology, its launching capabilities, and its capacity building activities.
