The shape, dimensions, and other structural elements of the hull depend on the intended use of the ship. It is not easy to simply classify ships according to any one principle; a differentiation can be made according to the type of propulsion: sail or machine, within the machine-powered vehicles according to the type of power generation: for example, diesel engines or diesel-electric power generation, combined diesel and gas turbine propulsion. Even steam engines for power generation can still be found from time to time.
