Gait biomechanical analysis has evolved over the last decades as an important technique to assist in the clinical assessment of patients with mobility dysfunction. Motion analysis offers an objective method for quantifying movement and is considered a gold standard for evaluating lower limb function during gait in different types of patients including spinal cord injury (SCI) patients. Up to now, gait is restored in a small amount of patients suffering SCI. Then, biomechanical studies can not be limited only to gait analysis. Several applications has been identified to be applied in SCI patients using biomechanical techniques. The aim of this presentation is to overview the most recent applications of biomechanical studies in SCI patients not only in gait analysis but also in upper limb movement analysis, manual wheelchair propulsion, pressure distribution studies at the user-cushion interface, wearable robots design and virtual reality applications based on motion capture system.
