The number of passengers entering and leaving public transport vehicles is an important parameter required for operation and planning, network optimization, modeling, and financial settlements. New APC technologies and approaches are still evolving. The paper presents the results of a literature review on APC systems in public transport. The paper is aimed at comparing different APC systems and the usage of APC data in financial settlement models in public transport.
