Abstract A technology of polymer adhesive modification is suggested for adhesives used in aircraft structures bonding. The technology is based on exposure of polymer component melt of the adhesive to an electric and wave field. A decrease of internal stresses and increase of the strength of adhesive joints based on modified adhesives are experimentally established. Electron microscopic and X-ray structural analyses indicated the mechanism of strength enhancement of adhesive joints based on modified adhesives due to adjustment of their structure on the nanoscale level.
