Aeronautic hooks are very versatile elements used in several applications and there are no standards for their design. This paper reports a proposed hook, actuated by a solenoid, and used for an auxiliary braking device of aircrafts which must land on aircraft carriers. Since the maneuvering time must be very short, in the design phase, the opening time of the hook must be evaluated. To address this issue, a dynamic model has been developed. Since the equivalent inertia of the system depends both on inertial properties of all the components, and on the system configuration, as well as all the dynamic parameters, a kinematics analysis of the mechanism has been developed.
