In the previous chapters, the SpaceFibre link technology has been analysed under all the possible points of views: we introduced the problem of satellite on-board data handling, highlighting the potentialities of the SpaceFibre protocol, which has been then deeply analysed. After that, we dedicated a chapter to presenting the building block of a SpaceFibre network, trying to stress the main design challenges to be addressed. After that, we proposed methods for evaluating SpaceFibre systems, both at the point-to-point level and at the network level, focusing on functional and performance requirements. Finally, we carried out an exhaustive survey on available and planned SpaceFibre-based solutions. At the time of writing (about 2 years after the publication of the SpaceFibre ECSS standard), we are about to a point of turn in SpaceFibre technology development. In this final chapter, we will wrap all the considerations made throughout the entire book, trying to understand which future is awaiting for SpaceFibre in the short–medium term and which challenges still need to be addressed.
