New and emerging engineering applications are being developed to respond to all engineering challenges. Especially climate change and energy security. Renewable energy and its related topics are all new applied concepts that should be taught in engineering schools. Besides, new soft skills are being asked in today disruptive jobs’ era like complex problem solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Lifelong learning is key in today’s educational systems. We have designed and implemented a renewable energy laboratory that responds to actual regional and international needs in engineering skills. In addition, the laboratory will foster creativity mindset in future engineers and leaders. Appropriate experimental sets have been designed and implemented. The lab covers a lot of green solutions which are deployed nowadays. The laboratory may also address research topics that students may undertake. We focus in this paper on regenerative braking systems. The latter is deployed in a wide range of applications. We have successfully developed an experimentation apparatus aiming to teach students on this important system. Leading in energy security and fighting against unemployment is a key responsibility of engineering schools. Educators should redesign their courses and create new courses that respond to the marked needs.
