This article describes the possibilities of state-subsidized public transport in Vilnius. An expert survey showed how important it is for cities to have such a model of public transport as is needed in new districts and suburban areas of Vilnius. The study collected information on the socio-economic factors of the population that affect public passenger transport, the mobility of the population, as well as the impact of private vehicles on the city. There are many obstacles to implementing a fully subsidized public transport model; legal, technological and organizational.
