In this chapter we investigate common concepts for robot applications. In a given application, all concepts may or may not be employed. The concepts are equally applicable from small, simple robots to complex systems. We discuss concepts related to robot location, steering, vision and obstacle avoidance, odometry, status monitoring, control, and autonomous versus remote control.
