Abstract A comprehensive method for evaluating handling quality in aircraft cockpit is presented, considering reflecting pilot performance qualitatively and quantificationally. Motion deconstruction and reconstruction model is built to reproduce the operation process based on the data collected during simulated flight phases. The handling quality evaluation model is established, combining motion data analysis through curve fitting, index values calculating, clustering and classifying with pilots’ subjective comments about the feelings during operation. Experiments were carried out with the participation of experienced pilots based on one simulation platform. Pilots were required to perform according to standard operating procedures under two typical flight tasks, one denoting airline flying task and the other denoting fault handling task. The results suggest that the objective evaluation with pilots’ motion data and the subjective evaluation with pilots’ feedbacks are consistent well with each other, demonstrating the usability of methods.
