Abstract Rising mobility demand and increasing complexity of transportation options put a higher pressure on transportation systems and are a challenge in urban areas. A solution requires changes on coordination and behavioral levels. Today’s technology, e.g., omnipresent smartphones, comprises the capabilities to induce such change via supply and demand coordination through intelligent traveler information systems. To identify the driving forces behind the decision to use such systems on an individual level the UTAUT 2 is transferred to the context of mobility by enriching it with explanatory insights from transportation research. The results indicate that the driving forces are user-specific and depend on diverse influencing factors that exceed pure economic and socio-demographic dimensions.
