To ensure that space remains useful for future generations, all involved stakeholders need to take care of space safety and sustainability. There are not only technical drivers and performance targets for development, but also other topics such as social, economic, and environmental drivers that must be considered. The number of satellites is rapidly increasing, especially in low Earth orbits (LEO), and the sustainable use of space aims to ensure flight safety and the mitigation of space debris.
