The State of charge (SOC) guiding the charging and discharging operation of batteries reasonably is one of great important functions in the battery management system (BMS). In this work, in order to accurately estimate the SOC of lithium-ion batteries, an unscented Kalman filter combined with an adaptive parameter identification are applied. Considering the accurate of the SOC of a battery is sensitive to various factors, such as the environment temperature, charging-discharging current rate and aging state of battery. So a great many experiments have been implemented for the batteries with different aging state under the different temperature, varied current rate operation to verify the estimation error of SOC. The results show that the estimator can provide an accurate SOC estimation with the error less than 3% to various aging state batteries under both the different current rate and temperature conditions, which indicates the SOC estimation proposed in this work possesses great prospects in practical applications.
