This article presents the concept, structure, functions and role of logistics in the context of the fourth industrial revolution, Industry 4.0, which will significantly change the structure of the workforce by profession, level of training, and territorial locations. At the same time, a great responsibility falls on educational institutions for the training of specialists appropriate to the time. Specifically, the profession of a logistician is being considered, the need for which is steadily increasing. On the basis of special publications, materials collected by students during practice, a survey of graduates of recent years, the main places of work of logisticians, their functions, personal qualities and knowledge that they should have now and, in the future, the responsibility of the logistician to the enterprise and of society are determined. The importance of mathematical and fundamental training of logisticians in the field of economics and management, interdisciplinary disciplines is emphasized. Digitalization of production and management, the main directions of which are summarized in this article, require special training of logisticians on the use of IT technologies, tools and methods of digitalization. The issue of improving production and pre-graduate practices, work on the WRC is discussed.
