Abstract As ships serve more than 80 % of the world trade by volume (UNCTAD in Review of Maritime Transport. In: United Nations on Trade and Conference 2011), sea transportation is the most popular shipping method used by traders. Public concerns over environmentally friendly operations and resource conservation in the shipping sector have been on the rise. Shipping facilitates global trade but generates environmental pollution (e.g., CO2 emissions and oil spills).
