Due to the increasing urbanization of metropolitan areas, traffic congestion and emergency response times have intensified. The management of emergencies requires a rapid response since emergencies are by definition unpredictable. Currently, traffic signals are time-based, which can result in inefficiency if one lane is operated more frequently than others. Occasionally, it becomes imperative to prolong the duration of green light allocation on a particular side of the junction due to elevated levels of traffic density. Accordingly, this paper proposes a system whereby green and red lights will be assigned according to the traffic density observed during that period. Upon completion of the density calculation process, the illumination duration for the green signal is allocated with the assistance of the microcontroller. The sensors situated along the road perimeters detect vehicle presence and transmit this information to the microcontroller, which subsequently determines the duration for which a specific lane remains open or the timing for transitioning signal lights. This project was developed by using the Arduino UNO Microcontroller logic, which is programmed in the Arduino IDE. Ambulance is identified through the utilization of a Bluetooth module interfaced with the “Serial Bluetooth Terminal” application, which is operated by the vehicle’s driver.
