Abstract The joint I/Q mismatch calibration, compensation and channel equalization approach are proposed for space-time-block-code (STBC) 2 2 multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) transceivers. The I/Q mismatches of transmitter and receiver are extracted by using the look-back calibration during the system power-on period. The results of look-back calibration is used to construct a reparation block and to further compensate the I/Q mismatch. In addition, based on MMSE criterion, the joint approach is employed to simultaneously combat the residual remote/end-user transmitter I/Q mismatch and the channel impairment at end-user/remote side.
