The blended-wing-body (BWB) is expected to become the ideal solution for future medium to large civilian and military aircraft due to its advantages such as high cruise efficiency, low flight noise and reduced fuel burn. This paper provides a brief overview of the development of BWB aircraft in the U.S. aviation industry, summarizing the current stage of development of BWB aircraft. Then focusing on the JetZero Z-5 project, which currently has the fastest development progress, commercial prospects and military potential of BWB are discussed. Finally, from the perspectives of structural design, material selection and manufacturability, the main development difficulties of BWB aircraft are analyzed, and relevant suggestions are put forward for future development path of BWB aircraft.
