Ridesharing, which emerged to provide solutions to various problems in modern transportation systems, is a transportation method that allows passengers to travel by sharing the same vehicle when they have similar routes. This transportation method has various advantages such as reducing transportation costs, providing environmental benefits and reducing traffic congestion. Despite its many advantages, there are many barriers to its implementation. This study aims to prioritize the barriers to ridesharing using the fuzzy DEMATEL method. Firstly, a literature review was conducted and twenty-four sub-barriers were identified under six main barriers (technical, economic, social, environmental, legal and psychological). While identifying the barriers, the main problems and challenges encountered in existing research on ridesharing were considered. Then, the impact level of each barrier on other barriers was evaluated by experts in the field. Finally, the fuzzy DEMATEL method was applied to determine which barriers should be addressed first. Thanks to these findings, a strategic guide for ridesharing system implementers is provided and solutions are developed.
