Active mobility, in the context of sustainable urban development, plays an important role as it positively impacts on decarbonisations, GHG emissions reduction, healthy lifestyles and city traffic decongestion, improving the overall quality of urban life. Furthermore, active mobility is a key evaluation element both in the Smart City rankings and in the protocols for evaluating urban regeneration interventions. The paper aims at defining criteria to assess the transformation of public spaces in urban regeneration contexts, applying specific indicators for active mobility.
The proposed assessment method aims at supporting decision-making and providing evaluation criteria of urban regeneration interventions, with particular attention to accessibility paradigms. Indicators from Smart City rankings and urban regeneration evaluation protocols have been re-arranged to measure the impacts of urban regeneration interventions. The methodology has been applied to some case studies in the Emilia-Romagna Region to outline possible guidelines for the integration of active and smart mobility in urban regeneration processes.
