During the last years, different producers of simulation software – PTV AG, INCONTROL Simulation Software, Aimsun company – turned more of their attention to the problematics of air transport and, especially, to simulations at the airports. It was connected with the development and improvement of new tools to model pedestrian flows, which first of all allow to simulate airport passenger flows. Unfortunately, at the moment the process remains in this point. Existing tools to create models of, for example, runway capacity, airport apron capacity or air routes still require improvement. Within the scope of this research work, an attempt was made to model the runway of the Krakow-Balice International Airport using Aimsun Next software with the aim to assess its capacity. The results showed the general feasibility of using such a simulation tool. The advantages, disadvantages as well as limitations of selected software were also described.
