An automatic surveillance of maritime is becoming very important to improve the situation connecting to maritime security or safety. In maritime domain, surveillance operation is often more complex. The maritime threats such as illegal underwater activities, smuggling, illegal fishing, criminal, and terror operation are on the rise. Hence, it is very important to have an automatic surveillance system in order to secure the commercial as well naval ships from pirates and terrorist attack. This paper presented a system which detects the ship at the condition of occlusion using histogram of orientated gradient (HOG). This system requires a less memory and processing time. HOG is used as classifier and conducted experiments on standard dataset. Experimental outcomes show that the proposed method gives promising results.
