Delays can cause unsafe tracking issues in metro system. This paper presents an online artificial algorithm (AA) to adjust the trajectory of the tracking train in real-time based on the Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) system, when delay occurred in the front train. In addition, an offline method with using dynamic programming (DP) is also proposed to optimize the speed profile of the tracking train in the subinterval and minimum delay can be achieved, both approaches can ensure safety tracking operation. Based on the practical data from Guangzhou Metro Line 8, the effectiveness of the two methods is verified, and corresponding optimization results are compared.
