The paper gives an insight of the measurement campaign within the project ‘LowNoiseTrain2’, which took place in Austria in 2018. The acoustic measurement of this freight train was done with an acoustic camera and the results to identify hot-spots and best-practice design are promising: The results show the structure of railway noise emission and the location (height) of the noisiest areas for different wagon types depending on the frequency (range). For instance a promising design is to shield the wheels with the frame of the wagon, at least the upper wheel area; this results in a reduction of the noise of the wagon itself, but there are indications that more reflections occur from the surrounding area.
