Among the wide range of space programmes that ESA has developed in its efforts to contribute to sustainable development, a relevant example is Earth Observation (EO). Defined as the process of acquiring observations of Earth’s surface, interior and atmosphere via remote sensing instruments, EO has a major potential to inform and facilitate international development in a globally consistent manner. Thanks to EO satellites, data at various scales (global, national or local) can be available in a continuous and consistent way.
