Space technology is indispensable for every aspect of our lives. It is the basis of every nation’s infrastructure, varying from disaster prevention, agriculture, communication, education and more. Japan has been actively engaged in outer space activities, which improve the lives of humankind. Recognizing that space technology contributes to the creation of a sustainable society, Japan has been developing the ways and means of space applications for sustainability. Technology has greatly advanced in the recent years, and astronauts will be starting their exploration to the moon in the near future. However even today, many developing countries suffer from limited health care. Space technology could be one of the effective tools for solving health issues on the ground, and the promotion of international cooperation for further enhancing the utilization of space technology in this area is essential. Japan’s space activities for global health introduced in this paper are some of Japan’s efforts towards a sustainable society.
