The wide range of applications in Vehicular Ad-hoc  NETworks (VANETs) make vehicles connected all along the trip. For reasons of security or leisure, the connected vehicles ask frequently to establish connection in the network. Due to the high request for access to the channel, some vehicles could be temporarily blocked from sending or receiving data. In this paper, we are interested in minimizing the vehicles blocking effect and in improving the throughput in VANET by implementing a cross-layer design (PHY/MAC) based on transmit antenna selection jointly with a dedicated MAC protocol. We show a significant performance improvement of the throughput in the network.
