This paper focuses on the concepts of assistance for complex driving maneuvers based on V2X communication as an enabler for cooperative connected automated mobility (CCAM). The role of smart infrastructure, on the one hand, and communication, on the other hand, will be explained using the CITS message CPM with the help of the example of the C-Roads Urban Nodes Pilot Dresden.
The analysis of complex driving maneuvers from the infrastructure as well as the description and the perception of these maneuvers offer several benefits for the assistance of complex driving maneuvers. The 24/7 view of the infrastructure makes it possible to capture and describe typical driving maneuvers – in contrast to the vehicle, which only recognizes the situation once, the infrastructure covers it ongoing.
By exchanging dynamic object lists between infrastructure and vehicles, the realization of infrastructure-assisted driving will be implemented first. In this way, the restricted ego sensor view of the vehicle can be significantly expanded by the bird view of the infrastructure. Second, maneuver recommendations can be sent by infrastructure to the vehicles. Finally, vehicles can be driven remotely, whenever the ODD does not permit automated driving, leveraging the additional information provided by the infrastructure.
