Abstract The performance of the automotive vehicle depends majorly upon the efficiency and quality of engine used, for that the ignition system of the engine should be upgrade. In order to govern the performance of the ignition system, important parameters are to be measured. In ignition system, the spark takes place some degree before TDC. The time of advance angle is required for mixing air and fuel, during this time combination takes place. This angle is known as spark advance angle, and it varies with vehicles. Experiments were conducted at different combustion start at 10°, 14°, 18°, 22°, 26°, 30°, 34°, 38° BTDC and engine speed of 500, 1500, 3400, and 5000 rpm. The performance of a spark ignition engine is investigated under different values of ignition advance. By varying the ignition timing, results characteristics such as power, torque, thermal efficiency, pressure, and BSFC are obtained and compared. After analyzing results, test rig have make to achieve combination of advance angle with corresponding spark generation. Spark advance angle measurement system using microcontroller is simulating the engine by using an AC motor which rotates the flywheel with sufficient speed. The TDC is recognized with help of sensor, fix at the top side. The trigger pulses are received from the trigger unit. These pulses are digitized using transistorized switching. From transistor collector, the pulses are given to microcontroller input port. From here onward, the software coding and visual indication part start.
