Transport sector faces many problems, including traffic congestion, accidents, environmental pollution, dependence on fossil fuels and the like, and these problems are becoming more severe and relevant with the annual vehicles number growth. The use of traditional measures to solve transport problems is too expensive and inefficient usually. IT have become an inseparable part of every person’s life and they have increasingly been used in manufacturing and provision of various services, including transportation services. The creation of information infrastructure is like the creation of an environment for the functioning of information systems rather than the creation of one very large computerized information system. Information systems can ensure a smooth and uninterrupted work and a sustainable transportation process through their interaction only. However, many systems have also been used in the organization and management of the freight carriage process. This section will justify the need for information systems in freight transportation.
