Full scale trials are carried out to determine the manoeuvring qualities of a ship and to see that it satisfies the required standards and specifications. Some tests are carried out to obtain information required for ship operation. There are certain conditions related to the site, the environment and the ship that must be fulfilled for acceptable trial results to be obtained. The conduct of various trials is described. These trials include definitive manoeuvres such as the turning circle and zigzag manoeuvres and operational manoeuvres such as the man overboard manoeuvre and inertia stopping. There are also tests for thrusters.
