Abstract A radial profile of the plasma mass distribution in Jupiter’s magnetosphere in the region beyond Io’s orbit up to ∼15 Jupiter radii R J constructed according to the results of measurements on the Voyager 1 and Galileo spacecraft is used to determine the radial dependence and radial diffusion coefficient D LL . The initial profile is approximated by a function decreasing as L −5 ± 1. For this radial mass distribution, radial ion diffusion outside of Io’s orbit caused by centrifugal forces is possible. An estimate of (1.2–6.7)10−11 L 6 ± 1 for D LL was obtained.
