Different communication protocols operate at different frequencies, over different distances and with different data rates. RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification), Bluetooth, and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technologies have lower data rates than Wi-Fi communication, which has a lower range than the mobile telecommunication technology standards of 2G–5G. LoRa (Long Range) is a low-power wide-area network (LPWAN) technology developed by Semtech. LoRa communication operates with a form of frequency modulation at lower frequencies than the 2.4GHz of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth communication. LoRaWAN (Long Range Wide Area Network) is the protocol for creating LoRa-based networks.
