In the coming years, the freight transport system will change considerably thanks to the introduction of drones. This low-environmental-impact technology has made considerable progress: to be used exclusively in remote or emergency areas, it is being tested all over the world and in urban areas. The use of artificial intelligenceArtificial intelligence in drones has enhanced their flight safety with the development of drone-embedded software capable of making autonomous decisions in emergency cases such as rotor failure, the sudden appearance of an obstacle, or a cyber-attack. During the most acute period of the pandemic caused by COVID-19, the use of drones has significantly increased in the medical field. Medicines, vaccines, and health equipment have been transported, minimizing the risk of contagion for health workers. Many of the potential uses of this transport system, which is becoming safer every day thanks to the investments of private companies as well as many countries, are unexplored: the transportationDrone transportation of easily perishable organs and personalized medicines (especially expensive oncological medicines) will be one of the next objectives. To date, there are two main obstacles to large-scale deployment: the acceptance of citizens seeing drones rushing over their heads with loads and the regulation on drones, which is not uniform in all countries hindering private investments.
