Although its National Commission for Aerospace Research and Development (Comisión Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Espacial—CONIDA) was established in 1974 it was not until the last decade that Peru has actually started to develop its space sector through a series of significant achievements, namely the creation of a national satellite system program and the negotiation of several space cooperation agreements. This chapter presents a brief description of Peru’s space activities. Section 14.1 provides a general overview of Peru; Sects. 14.2 and 14.3 focus on the main Peruvian space actors and the legal space framework for Peru’s space activities; Sect. 14.4 describes the space cooperation programs of which Peru is part; Sect. 14.5 focuses on Peru’s satellite capacities, and Sects. 14.6 and 14.7 describes the development of space technology in the country and Peruvian space capacity-building and outreach.
