Abstract Designed experiments approach is a systematic and scientific way of planning the experiments, collection and analysis of data with limited use of available resources. Factorial design (FD), Response Surface Methodology (RSM) with central composite design (CCD) and Taguchi robust design methodology are the most widely used DOE techniques in material processing experiments. Laser processing of materials is a complex process and involves large number of factors and the quality of machining is affected by these factors. In the recent times a lot of research has been done to improve the laser processing of materials through application of several statistical tools. In order to find the effects of laser process parameters on the quality of micro-channels, DOE methodology was used. After the initial screening of the factors the important factors affecting the selected responses were selected. Optimal design IV in RSM was used to design the experiment.
