As of March 2024, China’s electrified railways have reached a total operational mileage of 159,000 km (China Railway. China Railway. [Online]. Available: http://www.china-railway.com.cn/), of which high-speed railways account for 45,000 km. The national railway network density is 165.0 km per 10,000 sq km, with a double-track rate of 60.3%, and an electrification rate of 75.2%. The total locomotive inventory is more than 22,400 units, comprising 7,800 diesel locomotives, accounting for 34.7%, and 14,600 electric locomotives, representing 65.3%.
