In order to study traffic characteristics of the mixed traffic flow of tourist and non-tourist vehicles, the speed characteristics of tourist, non-tourist vehicles and mixed flow of the two were statistically analyzed. The hypothesis of the speed relationship between the three was proposed and verified. Based on this, the traffic efficiency of the road section before reconstruction in the target year was evaluated. The research results show that mixing vehicles with different travel purposes can reduce traffic flow speed by about 10%. Tourist and non-tourist vehicles tend to drive on the inside and outside of the road. The number of conflicts and serious conflicts can be reduced by at least 30% and at least 50%, separately, by setting up exclusive lane for tourist vehicles. Taking three aspects into account: speed and lateral distribution, traffic efficiency, and traffic safety, it is considered that the exclusive lane for tourist vehicles should be set up, and the outer lane is the best.
